Next 'Noon Meal Formation': Monthly luncheons 4th Friday of month normally; next one is 11:30, May 24, Friday at the All American Diner, 212 S. Air Depot, Midwest City. Meet with fellow members, discuss current business & talk about future events.
Completed and Planned 2024 Events:
Headliner event: As always, that is Founders Day, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 20th, 2024, starting at 1 pm at the Iron Starr Urban BBQ restaurant on Shartel Ave. We had 40 attendees at the 2023 Founders Day and had a wonderful time celebrating our heritage. This year will mark the 70 year anniversary of the founding of USAFA in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Guest speaker is Lt Gen (Ret) Donald J. Wetekam.
Volunteer focus: We would love to expand to a few more volunteer opportunities to help make us a chapter that truly makes a difference. Some tentative suggested activities are as follows: volunteering at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank and the Hugs Project (packing care packages for deployed troops), visiting with our retired and disabled vets at the Norman Veterans Home, and other worthy activities. Please share your ideas!
Social activities: We also discussed possible social events for the coming year. In addition to the ever-popular football watch parties (we had 4 in 2023) and the annual Beer and Wine Social in June, attendees discussed other possibilities such as a family-oriented picnic at an area lake. The prospects are endless--we just need your ideas and interest to make your wishes a reality. Let us hear your thoughts!

Falcons Win Bowl; USAFA AOG Conference Report
Final Falcon football update for 2023: Your Falcons are the Armed Forces Bowl champions for the second straight year after their stirring 31-21 victory over the previously 11-1 and 24th ranked JMU Dukes. Keying the Falcons to victory were the much-needed return of QB Zac Larrier and RB Emmanuel Michel from injury. Their return provided the Falcons with the necessary shot in the arm to end the season on a winning note, after starting 8-0, before dropping their next four games, in large part due to key injuries. Michel was named the game's MVP with 203 rushing yards! We wish all the seniors, including Larrier and Michel, our thanks for an outstanding season and much success as they begin their careers as Air Force officers in 2024! Several chapter members and friends and spouses attended the game.
President Lee Curtis Report from USAFA AOG Leadership Conference
Our chapter President, Lee Curtis, was privileged to attend the Long Blue Line Leadership Conference on July 27, 2023. The stand-alone Chapter Presidents conferences in previous years have now been consolidated with the Long Blue Line Weekend, which includes the Jack's Valley march back, among other fun activities. The following summary is an excerpt of the verbal report that Lee Curtis provided at the September 2023 Chapter meeting.
1) AOG Leadership perspectives were presented by Chairman of the Board Lt Gen (Ret) Mike Gould '76, President Mark Hilley '97, and Sr VP for Alumni Relations Naviere Walkiewicz '99.
- Gen Gould: AOG's role is to support USAFA, not lead or change it, and to keep the legacy of past classes alive--not just about raising $$$
- Mark Hilley: Vision is for AOG to provide a lifetime of service and impact to current cadets through funding of innovative programs and support facilities, the Long Blue Line, and the community. Membership for All is producing the desired results for engagement of cadets and newer grads. 99.9% of grads are signed up for membership upon graduation. Impact highlights over the recent past and current/future projects include the Center for Character and Leadership Development, the Madera Cyber Innovation Center to be complete in 2024, Falcon Stadium Renovation with the East Club to be complete in time for the 2024 season, a new Doolittle Hall Admin building to be complete in 2025, and the new Hosmer Visitor Center at the North Gate to be open in early 2025.
- Naviere Walkiewicz: Reported that grad membership in AOG is now up to over 69%, after never having been above 60%. With the no cost membership option, grads need only "opt in" to join. The Long Blue Line Portal is now active, an upgrade over the former "Zoomie Link". Goal is to help with engagement with cadets/new grads for mentorship opportunities (39% of grads reported they want the opportunity to mentor other grads). Other aim of the Long Blue Line Portal is to be the "go to" site for reunion information and social connections/support. The Young Alumni Conferences are producing excellent avenues for engaging newer grads and helping them to feel an important part of the Long Blue Line.
2) The USAFA Dean, Brig Gen Linell Letendre and Lt Gen (Ret) BJ Schwedo provided an exciting update on innovations in interdisciplinary studies programs that are going to shape our Air Force for years to come. The Institute for Future Conflict (IFC) at USAFA is the largest undergraduate only research program in the US (has more than double the combined budget of Army and Navy); USAFA cadets hold 50 different patents that have been developed through the IFC. NOTE: the AFA Foundation helps fund the IFC, so your contributions make a difference! The IFC has involvement from multiple departments, making our Academy a true war-fighting entity, more so than ever before. The IFC focuses on Asymmetrical warfare, looking for ways to create confusion for enemy combatants and leverage advantages against key enemy capabilities in unconventional ways.. Included in the areas being emphasized under the IFC is cyber security and warfare. USAFA has won awards for the top cyber and hacking teams among US universities. Excitement among the cadet community for these programs is exploding. Part of the IFC is the Multi-Domain Warfare Lab (MDWL) which combines simulators of various airborne assets with a CAOC-style command and control interface allowing for testing and tweaking of concepts for employment in the field. Gen Schwedo relayed a story of a group of defensive football recruits who were given the opportunity to sit in and use the various stations of the MDWL. They were so enamored with these exciting tools that they would be able to be a part of, the coach told him "Hey BJ, I've got 20 commitments right here!" Needless to say, the future of our Academy and our Air Force is in good hands with the current leadership team in place and the young men and women who are attending and graduating as future leaders of our Air Force.
3) There was a brief opportunity for attendees to hear of notable programs and ideas being used by other chapters to increase engagement and impact on future and current cadets. Here is a synopsis of those that were shared.
- The Charleston Chapter hold a annual one-day Service Academy Leadership and Ethics Conference for select high school students where they are led by AF, Army and Navy grads to work on solving various ethical dilemmas
- Other chapters relayed ways to possibly help recruit cadet candidates by linking with high school guidance counselors to seek students with interest in service academies and inviting them to a dinner or other event to spark interest
- Various chapters expressed interest in working with base inprocessing offices to inquire about providing a form or opportunity to ask USAFA grads to "opt-in" to allow them to be contacted to their local AOG chapter

The video portion of the broadcast may not be perfect due to Zoom bandwidth limitations at the present time but it should be jitter free. Close all devices and other programs on your network to maximize band width for the broadcast. The following tips should provide you the best reception.
a. Use an ethernet connection if possible. Set video tab to "HD" and Advanced for acceleration. More tips Here
b. Move your reception device as close to your router as possible and select the highest router speed available (5 GHz or higher).
c. Download the latest Zoom client (5.4.1) to your desktop before hand at https://zoom.us/download?zcid=1231
d. If you have a Zoom subscription ($15/month) this tweak will probably give you perfect reception: First, log in to your Zoom Account. Go to Account Management > Account Settings. Then enable Group HD. it is about half way down scrolling through many choices before you reach it.
